About Business

Dwan Ward, a native of Bellamy, Alabama founded Alabama Que in 2008. After graduating high school, Ward join the U.S. Navy as a ship board fire fighter and served in the Persian Gulf War. Honorable discharged from the military, Ward attended Solano Community College in Fairfield, California majoring in Fire Science. To stay in shape, he joined Solano's football team. Honorable discharged from the military, Ward attended Solano Community College in Fairfield, California majoring in Fire Science. To stay in shape, he joined Solano's football team. After his 1st season of playing Jr college football, major division 1 programs wanted his services. Ward selected the University of Cincinnati because of their highly acclaimed Fire & Safety Engineering Program. Ward arrived in Cincinnati in 1995 on a football scholarship at UC. December 29, 1997, his senior year, UC football went to the Humanitarian Bowl beating Utah State 35-19. That bowl game ended a 47 year bowl drought.
In 1998, Ward earned his college degree and begin his fire fighter career with Middletown Division of Fire in Middletown Ohio. When fellow fire fighter tasted his food, he became the primary cook at the fire station. Firefighter spouses tasted his food and began asking him to cater baby showers, graduations and wedding. Word of mouth brought more business and he begin a part time catering business in 2002.
In 2008, Alabama Que was opened on the West Side of Cincinnati. The restaurant was only opened on weekends. After 2 years of jugging being a full time fire fighter, catering, and running a restaurant. In 2010, Ward begin running the restaurant full time. To generate more income, Ward sold fried food to accommodate his fried food loving customers. BBQ is his passion.
May of 2012, Ward moved the business to Short Vine and removed all fried food from the menu. BBQ is what we do.
July 2012, Alabama Que was featured on the front page of the business section of the Cincinnati Enquirer for catering to the health conscious BBQ lovers and none pork eaters. All side items at Alabama Que are none pork based. Greens and green beans are made with smoke Turkey. Baked beans are vegetarian beans. All meat is cooked on a separate grill and cut with different knifes.
Thanks Giving 2012, Alabama Que did his 1st Television apperance on Channel 12 news with John Lomax . Ward featured his Grand-Mother's Mac & Cheese on Thanks Giving morning.
May 2014, Ward launch the food truck to keep up with the growing demand for his food around the Cincinnati area.
