For most of her life, Veronica Musie was affectionately known as “the top chef” among family and friends. With little advertising, word quickly spread about her exotic fusion meals and nutritious Ethiopian dishes. That inspired Veronica to take the leap. In 2018, she established “Vera’s Kitchen Desta” located in the historic district of Manassas, Virginia. Mission Statement

Our owner and master chef, Veronica Musie, first discovered her culinary passion while working in her mother’s garden and enjoying organic homemade meals in her homeland of Ethiopia. As a young adult migrating to the United States, Veronica would end up leaning on those childhood experiences derived through her mother’s cooking expertise.

Her philosophy for life is that, “food feeds the soul and serves as the single greatest unifier for people from all walks of life.”


Veronica experienced that firsthand as an immigrant working inside of leading Ethiopian and American restaurants. Through those experiences, she expanded her dynamic culinary skills and gained a pulse on food trends, too.
