Description

it is a story carved by hand, shaped by tradition, and carried with dignity. Every curve speaks of craftsmanship, every detail reflects heritage.

Artist Statement
Growing up in a town where wood fueled daily life, I've developed a profound appreciation for its transformative power. As an artist rooted in Nigeria's rich cultural heritage, I draw inspiration from ancestral wood carvings' intricate patterns, symbolic motifs, and storytelling techniques. My artistic journey reimagines wood's role, pushing beyond traditional uses. I see wood as a living canvas, waiting to reveal its unique story and essence. Through meditative wood carving, I uncover intricate patterns, textures, and grains, creating pieces that spark emotional connections. Driven by a deep respect for nature, I strive to redefine wood's purpose, crafting art that inspires new possibilities and fosters a more just and equitable future. My practice is driven by a conviction that art can shape the world, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. With each stroke of the gouge, I aim to bring out the inherent beauty within each piece of wood, creating a catalyst for emotional connection and positive change.

Description

This sculpture celebrates the timeless elegance of African womanhood, where adornment transcends beauty and becomes a symbol of identity, culture, and strength. The waist beads, delicately worn, speak of tradition, femininity, and self-awareness an unbroken connection between past and present. Through her poise and presence, she embodies dignity, resilience, and grace. A tribute to the woman who carries history on her body, culture in her spirit, and power in her silence.

Description

In every living being exists a moment suspended between staying and running between comfort and risk. This work inhabits that fragile space. The rabbit is not merely in motion but held within the tension where instinct meets uncertainty, where fear does not paralyze but propels. Fear, often mistaken for weakness, is a truthful force that sharpens awareness and demands choice. Freedom is not its absence but the courage to move with it. In flight, the rabbit reflects a human truth, the need to outgrow and become. This piece captures emergence, where fear transforms into motion and motion into meaning.
