Description

Celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Lagos with 'Eyo', This masterful metal casting captures the dynamic energy and enigmatic presence of the traditional Eyo masquerade, a symbol of transition, ancestral reverence, and Lagosian identity. The rigid medium is used to convey the fluid, sweeping motion of the masquerade's iconic flowing robes (Agbada). The figure is depicted mid-stride, adorned with the signature wide-brimmed hat (Aga) and firmly grasping the traditional staff (Opambata). This piece is a brilliant homage to Yoruba tradition.

Artist Statement
Through the timeless medium of cast metal, I sought to capture not only the physical presence of my subjects, but also the weight of the traditions they carry—reflecting the strength, mystery, and enduring spirit of our heritage. The metal allows each subject’s essence to stand immortalized, radiant with the pride of our history.
