Artist Statement
Throughout history, women have suffered the agony of existing as shadows of themselves in a male-dominated society. From being dubbed a witch if her husband dies before her and being shaved bald to atone for his demise, to being disinherited and forced to cater for the children left behind by her deceased husband; from being forced to stay at home while her egghead brothers walk down the path to the local primary school, to being confined to the kitchen as her predestined lot of inheritance; from being made victims sexual and verbal abuse, domestic violence and unwholesome traditional practices, to being systematically disenfranchised of the right to speak up against such infamy. The weaker vessel bearing the bone-crushing brunt of subjugation, with a courageous gaze she braves the pain, absorbing the pangs and blazing trails of lofty achievements unaided.
