Description

One lesson I have learnt in my practice is this: the shadows are what carries our form and structure. They are the elements that give life to a subject, lights also play a huge role, but the subject becomes flat and unreal when shadows do not compliment. Many a time when I receive portraits commission, I always look out for that element which most of the time, have been wipe out by massive blurring, excessive make-over and direct lighting. This makes it really tough to bring the subject to life. This has taught me a life lesson; what makes you a complete person is the shadows we pass through and the willingness not to conceal or hide it under the guide of false narrative. The first path to redemption is first accepting and revealing our flaws, then light come in to heal and make sense of our mess. You don't need to edit the shadows of your past under the false light of denial. You only need to allow the light of truth to come in to heal and make sense of your journey.

Artist Statement
Every attempt at an artwork is like holding a tablet of destiny in my hands, with the freedom to make of it what I want, every brush stroke having a message, coming together to make the painting a living entity. Despite painting using photo references, I do everything possible to capture the unseen elements: the energy, the rough texture of nature, the uncertainty of life and the subjectivity of outcome. All these are evident in the heavy brush work and suggestive strokes in my works.Though I would not want to be boxed in the 'isms' of the art world, my works are somewhat a blend of Impressionism and Realism; They combine the spontaneity of the Impressionists with the colours of Realism. So we could call it "Impressionistic realism". My works could however, take a different turn as I look to place priority on the painting than on nomenclature.

Description

The African society, especially in Nigeria; we have a timeline for every milestone and there is a predetermined expectation as we climb the maturity ladder. One of these expectations is Marriage, this also affects both genders but sometimes, it tilts more to the female gender. It is believed that the woman's fertility clock is winding down, hence they put pressure on them to quickly get into the family way. This pressure gets to many of the women and creates an endless desperation and search for a partner; it gets worse when the right one isn't coming through and they begin to question their chastity. Should they wait for the "Mr Right" to knock their doors or they go in search of "Mr Right"

Description

We were all born Free but with grew up with an illusion of freedom. The more we want to be free, the more we fix ourselves in boxes. No one is actually free; we are only free to choose our master. True freedom is in knowing our master or masters.
