Artist Statement
I paint stylized figures with big eyes, exploring human emotions, expressions, lifestyles and the ways we respond to what happens around us. After experiencing hearing loss in one ear, I began relying more on visual cues and body language to understand the people around me and the society I live in. This way of experiencing the world has shaped how I observe and paint people. The enlarged eyes in my paintings reflect this act of looking closely in order to understand. Through my work, I invite viewers to reflect on how we observe one another, interpret what we see and connect through the emotions and experiences we share.
