I've been trying to clear out my reading list recently, and as such I decided to read the book "Racism without racists" by Eduardo Bonilla-Silva and came upon this part which piqued my interest. This framing is far too conscious I feel. People complicit in systems of racial domination, especially in the modern day, probably do not think about it as consciously as this framing might lead one to believe.
I believe that the racial structures and systems of domination which are reproduced by "racism" do not require the conscious thought of "we need to subordinate this race in service of our groups interests.". I think they're much more emergent and unintentional.
And although they may be emergent from a naturalized ideological view which colors day to day interactions, this framing underplays the naturalization and almost treats the naturalization like a conscious choice.
I am nitpicking a bit though, so maybe the book in it's totality makes a more modest argument
This is a piece of art by yours truly, made as a little celebration of the simple joys and beauty of nature. 🌿
